Information, Advice or Guidance

Section 4: The range of barriers which may prevent clients

from being able to access information, advice or
                                   guidance services

This section will explore the following:

                         • Barriers which may prevent a specific group of clients from achieving their
                             requirements

                         • Ways to support a specific group of clients to overcome the identified
                             barriers

                         • The purpose of monitoring in relation to equality and diversity.

Barriers which may prevent a specific group of clients from
                     achieving their requirements

There are often many different barriers which could prevent a client from accessing a
service. This could prevent the client from reaching the outcome they need.

Barriers can often be identified early in the process by using good questioning and
listening skills. However, some barriers are less obvious than others and clients might
not always be willing to tell you about these.
