Information, Advice or Guidance

The consequences of clients suffering from discriminatory behaviour are extremely
serious: as mentioned above, discriminatory behaviour is illegal and anyone who takes
an active part in the behaviour is likely to face police intervention.

The client is likely to suffer long-lasting emotional and physical effects of
discrimination, such as increased anxiety, sadness and depression. Clients who
suffer discrimination are extremely unlikely to engage with the service.

A Activity 2: True or False

Think about the following statements and mark them true or false

                              1. For discrimination to have taken place, the client must have the
characteristic that they were perceived to have.

                                 True False

                              2. Direct discrimination is where someone is treated less
favourably than another person because of a particular
                                 characteristic.

                                 True False

                              3. Discrimination is only about physical attributes such as
                                 disability or gender.

                                 True False

                              4. Discrimination can still take place even though everyone is
                                 treated the same way.

                                 True False

                              5. Discrimination is illegal.

                                 True False
