Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties




                     The difficulties an individual with Specific Learning
                     Difficulties may have




                   There are many common factors associated with all of the Specific Learning Difficulties
                   (SpLDs) that can appear from an early age and will still be noticeable in later life.
                   Examples include:

                         •   Having good days and bad days for no clear reason

                         •   Poor confidence

                         •   Low self-esteem

                         •   Poor short-term or working memory

                         •   Little awareness of time, and lack of time management

                         •   Hypersensitivity to environmental factors

                         •   Difficulties with sequencing

                         •   Difficulty in maintaining or altering focus

                         •   Lack of rhythm or balance

                         •   Difficulties with listening, especially when faced with multiple individuals

                         •   Difficulties with turn-taking

                         •   An avoidance of different or unpredictable situations

                         •   Difficulty sleeping

                         •   Difficulties with expression

                         •   Difficulties interacting socially

                         •   Difficulties with handwriting.
