Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties
In adults, the signs are likely to include:
• Getting anxious at the thought of having to do mathematical tasks
unexpectedly at work
• Repeatedly forgetting a PIN number for a bank card
• Having trouble handling money or keeping track of finances at home
or at work
• Frequently running out of time while doing a task, or failing to plan enough
time for all the things that need to be done
• Trouble understanding graphs or charts
• Often getting several different answers to the same mathematical problem
and needing to check work over and over again
• Frequently being late, occasionally missing important events altogether
• Finding it difficult to remember names
• Needing to write down a phone number immediately to remember it
• Getting lost easily or frequently misplacing objects around the house.
Clearly all of these things can be worrying and distressing, and can have a major
impact on relationships.
