Information, Advice or Guidance
There are a number of client groups which may have additional needs such as:
• Clients with physical disabilities (for example, mobility problems or sight
issues)
• Clients with mental disabilities
• Clients with specific time constraints
• Clients without access to certain resources (for example, the internet, or
telephone)
• Clients with language difficulties (for example, clients where English is not
their first language)
• Clients on low income or who have financial difficulties.
The three client groups to be examined are:
– Clients with specific time constraints
– Clients without access to certain resources
– Clients with disabilities.
By using your communications skills, and following the model outlined earlier in the
workbook, you will be able to identify the client’s requirements and any particular
needs they have.
As mentioned earlier in this unit, some clients are likely to have time constraints when
dealing with your service – perhaps because they are at work during your core hours
or sometimes because their issue is urgent. Also discussed was the consequences of
rushing a decision or making a decision without all the facts.
