Information, Advice or Guidance
Referring or signposting individual clients to other agencies
There are many ways of submitting a referral and your company will have its own
internal procedures to follow; it is important that these are followed at all times.
Some organisations will have electronic referral systems in place where you can refer
a client through a webpage designed specifically for that purpose. Other organisations
will have a form that you will need to complete in order to refer. It is important you look
through these forms before referring anyone, as they will explain what information you
need to provide.
It is worth speaking with an experienced team member before referring or signposting
a client, as they will be able to explain the local services and referral options available
to the client.
It is vitally important that good documentation is kept at all steps of the referral or
signposting process. This is so you can monitor the effectiveness of your referrals and
signposting and also make sure the client receives the best service possible.
As mentioned above, the paperwork or electronic submission process is likely to be
different for every organisation, however there are common steps everyone should
follow in the referral process.
