Information, Advice or Guidance

                   Monitor and evaluate

Monitor means to observe and check the progress or quality of something over a
period of time and to keep reviewing it.
Evaluate means to determine the importance, effectiveness, or worth of something,
which in our case are referrals. So, to evaluate the referral process means looking at
the referrals and making a judgment based on the quality.

In order to successfully monitor and evaluate referrals within your organisation, it
is important to maintain good records. This will be discussed in more detail in the
                   next section.

There are many good reasons why monitoring and evaluating your work is important:

                         • Are your referrals working? Do the clients you refer attend their future
                             appointments?

                         • So you can identify areas you may need to change and the support you
offer your clients (for example, improving your knowledge or skills in a
                             particular area)

                         • To be able to justify and communicate the value of your work. It is very
important you can share your successes, as well as areas for further
                             improvement.

As mentioned above, good record keeping is vital when considering evaluating the
service. Without good quality records, you are unlikely to be able to evaluate the
                   service you provide to clients.
