Information, Advice or Guidance
4. Accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date.
Any errors must be corrected promptly and the information kept up to date. Care
workers should never handle personal or sensitive information that they do not
need for work.
5. Kept in a form that permits identification of data subjects for no longer than is
necessary for the purposes for which the personal data is processed.
Information should be destroyed when it is no longer needed. The individual has the
‘right to be forgotten’, which means they will be able to request that their personal
data is erased and no longer processed. Retention of data will be lawful in some
cases where it is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation or for reasons of
public interest.
6. Processed in a way that ensures appropriate security of the personal data, including
protection against unauthorised or unlawful processing and against accidental loss,
destruction or damage, using appropriate technical or organisational measures.
Information should be kept secure at all times and protected from unauthorised
access, disclosure, alteration and destruction. As soon as the organisation becomes
aware that a personal data breach has occurred, it should notify the personal data
breach to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO), without undue delay and,
where feasible, no later than 72 hours after becoming aware of it.
The purpose of these principles is to protect the interests of the individuals whose
personal information is being processed.
