Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties
Dyscalculia
Although prevalence in the UK is estimated to be around 5% of the population, the
process of diagnosing dyscalculia is not quite as straightforward as, for example, that
for dyslexia. The wide variations of symptoms experienced by people make it difficult
to point to one diagnostic test that covers them all. Therefore, a range of tests and
measures are used to identify the particular problems for each person so that carefully
structured individualised support can be provided.
While online tests can help, there will naturally be a better understanding achieved
by performing a person-to-person diagnostic, ideally as a clinically-based interview.
Diagnosis and assessment often, therefore, use a range of measures to identify which
particular factors are creating problems for the individual concerned.
A Activity 3: Dyscalculia test
Use the link below to take a look at a dyscalculia test.
This test has been used for several years by the Dyscalculia
Centre, is suitable for adults, and since its inception in 2010
has been used by many people.
